Do you have a digital camera and want to learn how to use it more effectively and artistically? In this class, we will discuss photographic techniques used with macro, documentary, portrait, landscape, wildlife, nature, and event photography. The class will include field work, discussions, and review of student images.

Fundamentals of Photography I

Fall 2020

Do you have a digital camera and want to learn how to use it more effectively and creatively? In this class, we will investigate framing, composition, and lighting, as well as other general photographic principles such as focus, depth of field, lens speed, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, and continuous high-speed shooting. In between classes, we will have shooting assignments and will review images in class. This will be a fun, interactive class that will help you to become a better master of your camera!

Macro Photography

The world of Macro is an amazing and fun place; it is a world that most never deeply see. Learn the best techniques and practices to get the most from your cameras and lenses to create amazing close-up images. Learn how to use unique macro tools to shape and control the lighting and the three major macro problems and their multiple solutions. Learn to master macro photography with natural and man-made subjects. Topics include: best equipment for macro photography, macro equipment on a budget, best macro lighting techniques, and classic macro subjects. Our class will be hands-on, so expect to shoot 30-50 images each week.

Insect and Small Animal Photography

Date: Saturday, September 8, 15, and 22, 2019

Time: 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Fee: $97 ($87 Members)

The world of the insect is an amazing and fun place; it is a world that most never deeply see! Learn the techniques to get the most from your camera and lenses and how to create amazing close-up insect images. Learn how to use unique macro tools to shape and control the lighting and the three major macro problems and their multiple solutions.

Topics include: best equipment for insect photography, macro equipment on a budget, field and lighting techniques with insects, and a primer on insects within an ecological context. Instruction will emphasize the use of DSLRs, mirrorless, and point-and-shoot cameras but students with camera phones are also most welcome.

Our class will be a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on, so expect to shoot 50-100 images per class. Environmental Education Criteria II CEUs available (NCEE).
